FISHING REPORTS

Florida Snook chasing a fly

Fall in Naples through the Everglades is in the transitional faze at the moment! As the cooler month's prevail the fish are starting to move from the outside barrier islands to the back country sheltered coves! Fish will be on the move for the next month or so depending on the weather.

Snook, and red fish are the main targets right now for me and the long rod is my favorite way to pursue them. There is still baitfish migrating from the north so your typical baitfish patterns will catch their share. White and chartreuse have been my first choice, but if you're in low light conditions it's hard to beat black! There is also lots of finger mullet around, so muddlers and Dahlburg Divers seldomly get refused. The bigger deerhair heads push a lot of water making it easy for the fish to locate them through the lateral lines.

On the outside beaches you can find big schools of mackerel, blue fish, lady fish and jacks. Great for action fishing and easy to find! Look for the diving birds and you will be in luck. This is a great place for white flashy flies nothing particular! A good place to use up old tattered patterns because the mackerel will strip them clean. A fast retrieve will buy you a bite every time. If you decide to target these fish, tie up flies on long shank hooks and synthetic materials! This will prevent getting cut off and the flies will last longer.

There is a material called flash and fibre which is exactly what it is! I simply cut off the desired amount and tie it straight to the hook one shot and finish off with an epoxy head! Simple, quick, durable and very effective!

Until my next report, tight lines and screaming drags to all!
